Brave a dip

If you’re like us and absolutely love a beach day, the sight of rolling grey clouds might be dampening your desire for a dip. But instead of counting down the days until Summer for South Devon things to do (less than 45 as of today, not that we checked), you may want to fish your swimmers out sooner rather than later as now’s the prime time to enjoy the warming waters.

Don’t let these odd dreary days deceive you, warmer weather is on its way, so now’s the best time to dust off your paddleboard and scout out that snorkel. And where better to test the waters than in the South Devon seaside town of Torquay?

Enjoy the great weather

The much anticipated Summer months bring warmer weather and longer days, and for many South Devon seaside towns, they also bring bustling booms of tourists. For a few chaotic months a year, quaint towns become beacons for holidaymakers looking for a slice of South Devon heaven.

While these months are popular for very good reasons, if you’re willing to sacrifice a few degrees off the weather and prepare to dodge the odd Spring shower, when it comes to South Devon things to do, a trip in May can offer all the delights of a Summer stay, without the crowds, queues and prices.

Sample South Devon Seafood

Down in Devon, when it comes to lunch and dinner, there’s so much more than the classic fish and chips. While we love a traditional chippy, there’s a whole host of dinner delights to dig into during your May break to South Devon and we’d highly recommend starting with seafood.

Being on the coast means fresh fish arrives daily on our shores, ready for the lunch time rush and those all important dinner diners. If you’re looking for South Devon things to do this May, come out of your cod comfort zone and try something new.

Not a seafood fan? Don’t worry, you won’t go hungry, there are plenty of eateries worthy of your visit this May, and because you’re visiting in Spring instead of Summer, you shouldn’t have to make a reservation weeks in advance (although if you’re dead set on somewhere, it never hurts to get your name down for a table as soon as possible).

Explore on Foot

May is National Walking Month, so grab your walking boots (or sturdy flip-flops) and head to South Devon for some of the most scenic walks in the UK. From coastal cliff top adventures to moorland rambles, there’s something for everyone. So block out the morning, afternoon or the whole day to explore the wonders this county has to offer, including a significant stretch of the South West Coast Path.

Whether you’re walking for the views, the challenge, your four-legged friend or for the tea room at the end, there’s nothing quite like a South Devon walk in the wonderful month of May.

Indulge for a Day or Two

If you’re considering a trip to South Devon this May, chances are you’re planning to visit the beach or even preparing for a swim in the warming sea. However, whether it’s the feeling of sand between your toes or the salt air in your hair, being by (or in) the sea isn’t for everyone. So why not treat yourself to a little seaside indulgence at a luxury spa?

Relax, fully pampered, perhaps with a cocktail? And during May, you can enjoy Lincombe Hall’s Spring Saver Spa Break which not only includes full spa access, but some pretty delicious dining options as well as 20% off all treatments.
